The Tonomine Kogen Highlands are one of the most prominent highlands in West Japan, renowned for the extension of about 90 ha susuki grass. It has been designated as a prefectural natural park alongside Mineyama Kogen Highlands, Yukihiko Kogen Highlands, and Ikuno Kogen Highlands. The plateau earns its title as one of Hyogo’s premiere destinations with magnificent scenery throughout the year, including beautiful flowers blooming atop the green earth in spring, birdsong on the cool winds of early summer, the colors of seven autumnal flowers in fall, and a snowy wonderland in winter. The Tonomine Kogen Highlands is also home to various events including a field-burning festival in March, a moon-viewing festival in September, and the Susuki Grass Festival in October. It has also been used for filming scenes in various films and television shows including the film “Norwegian Wood” and the Taiga dramas “Taira no Kiyomori” and “Gunshi Kanbei.”
