Himeji Castle—a World Heritage Site and National Treasure site—is located in the heart of Himeji City. This precious cultural heritage site has been untouched by battle since it was built some 400 years ago, leaving Himeji Castle with much of its original construction intact. The areas around the castle include various sightseeing spots such as Koko-en Garden to the west, featuring the remnants of traditional townhouses and the setting for various Japanese movies and television series, and the red brick Himeji City Museum of Art.
