Hyogo Prefecture’s Yoshitomi area in Kamikawa is presumed to be the location of the “Ikuno Kozanryo Bashamichi” (the Ikuno Silver Mine Horse-Drawn Carriage Road, another name for Gin no Bashamichi) and is considered one of the only places where the road can still be seen today as it was then. Most of the 49 km carriageway between Ikuno and Himeji Port has been converted to asphalt road, but here Gin no Bashamichi is still used as a residential dirt road along which the region’s rich nature, history, and culture have thrived.
